I used to rent a safe deposit box from my bank, because the branch closed I ended up at Citysafes. I thought it would be much more expensive than at the bank, but the price is about the same and I didn't have to take out any other products either. No waiting list, no additional requirements .... just rent a safe deposit box.

How secure is it to rent a safe?

Your safe is located in a high-security safe that meets the stringent requirements of security category 4+. This is the highest security category in Belgium. This means that, among other things, the safe is excellently protected against fire and theft and is monitored 24/7.

Up to what amount is my safe deposit box insured?

The contents of your safe deposit box are insured up to €45.000 as standard from a type A safe. If required, you can increase your cover to €90.000 per year for an additional €52. For an additional €130 per year, there is the option to increase your cover to €150.000. The cover applies per safe-deposit box. It is therefore also possible to rent several safe deposit boxes for higher cover. You then spread your valuables over several safes.

What do you need to rent a safe deposit box in CitySafes Namur?

You must be in possession of a valid European identification document and an IBAN. At CitySafes the following documents are valid as proof of identity:

  • EU passport
  • Valid Residence Document for Belgium
  • Belgian residence document, ID or driver’s license

Can I rent a safe with someone else?

Yes, you can designate your partner or a family member as a co-tenant. Your co-tenant will have access to the safe deposit box just like you with the keys, even if you are not there yourself. Master tenant and co-tenant are equals on the contract. Adding a co-tenant can only be done in person at the office. You must both be present with valid identification to do so.

Is it possible to rent a safe for business?

Yes, you can. To do so, you must bring a certified extract from the Kamer van Koophandel to your appointment. This must not be older than 3 months. This extract must show your name.

We also request that you fill out an End Interested Party Declaration and bring it with you to the appointment if you wish to rent the safe deposit box for business purposes. You can also fill it out at the branch during the tour. And you should bring your company’s VAT number and IBAN to the appointment.

Are there any additional costs besides the rent?

You pay a one-time €85 deposit per safe for the keys and lock. If you return all keys at the end of the rental agreement and no payments are outstanding, the deposit will be refunded to you within one month.

You can visit your safe deposit box free of charge and without restriction on the regular safe deposit box days. Would you like to visit your safe deposit box outside the regular safe deposit box days? This is possible by appointment. CitySafes will charge you an administration fee of € 35,- including 21% VAT.

Should you lose one or both keys, you will also be charged for this. The cost for one lost key is €300,- excluding VAT and for two lost keys it is €600,- excluding VAT.

Do I always retain 100% ownership of my goods?

You remain the legal and economic owner of your property at all times. It does not matter whether you keep your properties in our depot, or in your own safe deposit box. Contrary to the practice of most banks, your property is not part of the estate in case of bankruptcy.
